Lokesh Rahul made his first-class debut for Karnataka in the 2010–11 season. That same year, he played for India in the 2010 ICC Under-19 Cricket World Cup, scoring 143 runs. He made his IPL debut in 2013, playing for Royal Challengers Bangalore.
In the 2014–15 Duleep Trophy final, playing for South Zone against Central Zone, Rahul scored 185 runs off 233 balls in the first innings and 130 runs off 152 balls in the second. Later, in the 2014–15 Ranji Trophy final against Tamil Nadu, he scored 188 runs.
