Kumar joined the Indian Police Service in 1996. Before becoming the acting DGP of Uttarakhand, he served as the Additional Director General of Police (ADG) in the state and also as the Special Principal Secretary to Uttarakhand’s Chief Minister, Pushkar Singh Dhami.
Kumar will become the Acting Director General of Police (DGP) of Uttarakhand starting December 1, as per an official order from Additional Chief Secretary Radha Raturi. He will take over after the current DGP, Ashok Kumar, retires on November 30.
Abhinav will hold this new role along with his current responsibilities. Kumar began his career in 1999 as the Assistant Superintendent of Police in Dehradun. He will hold the additional role of DGP until further notice. His new assignment has the support of Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami.
