Acting Career of Neelam Kothari
Neelam Kothari Soni was born in Hong Kong to a Gujarati Jain father, Shishir Kothari, and an Iranian mother, Parveen Kothari. Her family was involved in a high-end jewelry business. Neelam learned to play the keyboard and practiced Jazz Ballet during her childhood. She studied at Island School in Hong Kong before moving to Bangkok with her family.
While on vacation in Mumbai, she was approached by director Ramesh Behl, who offered her a role in Jawaani (1984), alongside Karan Shah. Although the film wasn’t a big hit, her performance caught attention, leading to several acting offers.
Neelam gained fame with Ilzaam (1986), where she starred opposite Govinda. She became a popular pair with Govinda, appearing in 14 films together, including hits like Love 86 (1986), Khudgarz (1987), Hatya (1988), and Taaqatwar (1989).
She also worked in successful films with Chunky Pandey, delivering hits like Aag Hi Aag (1987), Paap Ki Duniya (1988), Khatron Ke Khiladi (1988), Mitti Aur Sona (1989), and Ghar Ka Chiraag (1989). She even acted in a Bengali film, Badnam (1990), with Prosenjit Chatterjee.
