Matt hit his first first-class century on December 6, 2015, during the Sheffield Shield against New South Wales. He played his first List A match for the National Performance Squad against India A on August 27, 2016.
In December 2018, he made a record score in Brisbane senior cricket, smashing 345 runs for Toombul in 273 balls, including 38 fours and 12 sixes. He played for Brisbane Heat in the Big Bash League from 2018 to 2019.
In the 2020–21 season, he joined the Adelaide Strikers and signed a three-year deal with them in September 2020. Matt debuted for Somerset on April 20, 2018, against Worcestershire, scoring an unbeaten 101, which was half of Somerset’s total of 202 runs.
