William was picked by the Buffalo Sabres in the 4th round of the 2015 NHL Draft, 92nd overall. He started playing college hockey at St. Cloud State University in the next season while studying sports management.
In his first year at St. Cloud State, William got his first college hockey point with an assist against Michigan on October 30. He scored his first goal during the NCHC playoffs against Western Michigan.
In his junior year, he achieved a personal best of 14 points, leading his team. He was named NCHC Defensive Defenseman of the Year and received an All-NCHC Honorable Mention.
Professional Career
