Career Journey Of Temba Bavuma  

Temba made his debut for Gauteng in 2008 against Eastern Province. He batted in the middle order and scored four runs in his first innings, briefly partnering Dane Vilas for his first-class best score.

Bavuma made his franchise debut for the Lions in the 2010/11 season. In May 2017, he decided to move to Cape Cobras for the 2017–18 season. In June 2018, Bavuma was appointed as the captain of the Highveld Lions for all formats.

In September 2022, Bavuma was not selected by any franchise in the auction for the first season of the SA20 League.

International Career

Bavuma made his Test debut for South Africa against the West Indies on 26 December 2014. On 5 January 2016, he became the first black South African cricketer to score a Test century.

Bavuma made his One Day International debut for South Africa against Ireland on 25 September 2016, where he also scored his first ODI century. Bavuma took his first and only Test wicket against Australia on 7 November 2016.

In August 2019, he was selected for South Africa’s T20I squad for their series against India. He made his T20I debut for South Africa on 18 September 2019, playing against India.

On 4 March 2021, Bavuma was named the captain of South Africa’s limited-overs team, replacing Quinton de Kock. He became the first black African player to be appointed as the permanent captain of South Africa’s cricket team.

Bavuma captained South Africa in the 2022 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup. On 18 March 2023, during the second ODI against the West Indies, he scored a career-best 144 runs off 118 balls and also reached 1,000 runs in One Day Internationals (ODIs).
