Pegula will face the winner of the match between Kazakh player Yulia Putintseva and Russian sixth seed Diana Shnaider in the next round.

Earlier in the tournament, Pegula defeated Greek lucky loser Maria Sakkari with a dominant 6-4, 6-1 performance.

Yulia Putintseva, born on January 7, 1995, in Moscow, Russia, showed early promise in tennis. She began competing on the ITF Junior Circuit in 2008 at the age of 13 and quickly rose to prominence. By May 2012, she achieved a junior career-high ranking of world No. 3.

She claimed her first junior singles title in May 2009 at the Grade-2 International Junior Tournament in Prato, followed by another win at the Grade-1 “Citta’ di Santa Croce” event. In the same year, she made her Grand Slam junior debut at the US Open and secured her first win.

Between 2010 and 2012, Putintseva consistently performed well in junior tournaments, reaching Grand Slam semifinals at Wimbledon and the US Open and competing in finals at the US Open and Australian Open. By the end of her junior career in 2012, she had won five singles titles and competed in her last junior Grand Slam at the French Open, finishing in the quarterfinals.
