Hoda Kotb, born on August 9, 1964, in Norman, Oklahoma, grew up in Morgantown, West Virginia, and Alexandria, Virginia. She lived in New Orleans during the 1990s and spent time in Egypt and Nigeria with her family. Her parents, Abdel Kader Kotb, a fossil energy expert, and Sameha Kotb, who worked at the Library of Congress, played a big role in her upbringing. She has a brother, Adel, and a sister, Hala.
Kotb graduated from Fort Hunt High School in 1982, where she was homecoming queen and a class speaker. She later attended Virginia Tech, earning a degree in broadcast journalism in 1986. During college, she was part of the Delta Delta Delta sorority.
Hoda started her journalism career at WXVT in Mississippi and then worked for stations in Illinois, Florida, and Louisiana. In 1998, she joined NBC as a correspondent for Dateline NBC.
